Bella Readers Survey

As part of a comprehensive re-launch and re-design we are asking you to take part in a readers survey to find out how you use Bella and what you like (and don’t like) about the site.

We’ve had some technical problems with the site in the last few months and we’re moving to a dedicate server so it loads much quicker and can cope with traffic spikes. We now have a tech-support team for the first time in ages (!).

Next month we’ll be rolling out our plans for the years ahead but first things first is to get your feedback that will help steer the web development.

If you can fill-in the survey and share it on Facebook that would be a big help to us. Thanks.

  1. Gillian Robertson says:

Although I support Snp at the moment, I may change to Greens after Indy (and for local elections).

    1. Topher Dawson says:

      Hi Gillian,

I used to be in the SNP but didn’t like the NATO decision, having been CND for a long time, so it occurred to me that I could join the Greens and carry on campaigning for independence. The Yes group here are a cordial mixture of SNP, Green and others. We campaigned hard in 2014 and we will be out again whenever the balloon goes up this time too.

I vote Green and SNP, depending on tactics. My house has a YES sign 4 feet high and will do till we get independence. It does no harm for the SNP to have some constructive opposition and it helps people see that an independent Scotland will have more than one party. As it says on the poster, “Let’s work together as if we are living in the early days of a better nation”.

  2. Debbie Bruce says:

I enjoy Bella, cross party articles with some great contributors.Hope you keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks Debbie! We’re going to gather feedback from folks, re-design the site then re-launch next month.

  3. Anne McGaughey says:

Thank you for the dedication and effort that goes into Bella Caledonia

  4. Shocked & horrified says:

Just a little confused here: you’re asking readers to fill in a document full of personal details, and publish that on Facebook? Or am I being over-literal in my reading of “If you can fill-in the survey and share it on Facebook”?

    1. Not at all – just asking people to share the link. All data is completely confidential.

  5. Wul says:

Took me a while to realise I had to scroll the window down to access the survey on the title page.

Well done on all your hard work to date. This place has been an essential part of my growing awareness of Scotland’s amazing potential. Thank you.

  7. Sheikh MaBunnet says:

I used to access several times a day, but in recent years it can be months at a time. Prior to the referendum it was an invaluable source of information, but later seemed to fall into a particular narrow viewpoint and, at times, personal vendetta.
I check in now and again just to see if things have improved, so it will be interesting to see what the new revamp brings.

    1. Thanks. A personal vendetta? Against whom?

It would be good to hear what your interests are.

      Thanks for responding.

      1. Sheikh MaBunnet says:

As I recall, against everyone who disagreed with a fairly narrow vision of what Scotland could, or should, be. The details are vague now, and I can’t be bothered to rake up the past to recall them, however the whole tactical voting thing, trying to game the D’Hondt system, left a particularly bad taste in the mouth. There was a time when I feared that Bella was, for want of a better expression, disappearing up its own arse.

Anyhoo, bygones being bygones and all that, I’m looking forward to seeing how the new revamp pans out. My “interests” such as they are, extend to ensuring a demcrating Scotland, and the only way to achieve that is through independence. As things stand, there is one main vehicle for that, and we should avoid fighting amongst ourselves until after independence is gained. As per Bibbit’s comment: “All of us need to come together and ‘swim down’. Swim down for our lives!”

        1. Sheikh MaBunnet says:

          a *democratic* Scotland, even.

  8. Bibbit says:

Remember the end of the Disney Film Finding Nemo, when Nemo and the tuna shoal are all trapped in the trawler net and about to be dinner? Nemo tells all the tuna shoal to swim down and a life and death wrestling match takes place between the fish swimming down and the crane trying to winch them up.

I see Scotland, at this point in time, as that trapped tuna shoal. We all have to swim down together to free the net. Once we are free we can all swim off in any direction we chose.

So please bear that in mind, Bella, and my fellow Bella readers. Let’s not sweat the small stuff.

All of us need to come together and ‘swim down’.

    Swim down for our lives!

    1. Patricia McTavish says:

      You are right

  9. Chris says:

I agree with the posters above – both the positive ones expressing gratitude and admiration for all the hard work… and the less positive ones about this site becoming something of a vehicle for a rather narrow, personality-based perspective.

I’d just encourage more of the open, positive stuff and less of the personal vehicle thing.

    Good luck with it..!

  10. Angus the haggis hunter says:

I have seen a lot of posts on Facebook from Bella, some good stuff alright.
When Scotland is independent am going to vote green and get away from stupid class. Asked politics.
Would also like no royalty, no NATO and neutrality for Scotland, except peace keeping forces

  11. Peter Gunn says:

Hi, I cannot even finish this survey as page keeps disappearing. Just like your independence message!

    1. Hi Peter, sorry your having difficulties, we’ll try and fix it.

In what way is our independence message disappearing?

  12. John fitzpatrick says:

Ive wanted independence since I was Young and that wasn’t yesterday,I’m 78 now.I find bella quite Imformative and good for digging out facts.

  13. Albawoman says:

Completed first page of survey…clicked next and up came comments …tried again same thing

    1. Are you doing that on a phone?

  14. Fay Kennedy. says:

What you do is mostly fantastic Mike and the team.

  15. Walter Scott says:

Bella is an excellent source of great reporting & intelligent writing. A far cry from the foaming at the mouth unionist depiction of the pro independence. As I mentioned briefly in the survey, the unionist side of the arguement must be held to closer scrutiny. I suggest “Lies of the Week” as a kind of fact checking service. Wee Ruth could fill a whole page. Keep it up Mike, your country needs you!

  16. Iain MacDonald says:

I have found it not possible to do the survey ,as it changes pages any time I answer a question. My iPad is working fine so this is not the problem . Please sort it out as I would like to complete this Thank you, Iain
